A Fundraiser to Empower Langa’s Future

Two Dreams. One Mission. Your Impact.

In the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, two grassroots projects in the township of Langa are changing lives: a small Educare Center where children learn and grow with joy and a community bakery, born from resilience and filled with purpose to empower women and enable job opportunities.

We’re raising $10,000 to support both.

With your help, we can restore dignity, create opportunity and light the way forward for an entire community.

Heads up - you’ll be taken to a secure donation form hosted by Aquarius Foundation, our amazing mothership behind the Good Nomad Collective. Every cent you give goes straight to the projects!

Project 1: Nolukhanyo Daycare and Education Center

Meet Jean Mpati – The heart behind the Educare Center. Affectionately known as Ma’ Jean, she is the gentle force and guiding light behind the community Educare Center in Langa. With open arms, a warm smile and a deep love for children, Mama Jene has cared for and nurtured dozens of little ones over the years - many of whom call her “Gogo” (grandmother) with affection and trust.

She began her work out of a simple belief: every child deserves to feel safe, loved and ready to learn. In a township where early childhood care is scarce and often unaffordable, Mama Jene created a haven - a small classroom filled with laughter, learning and the smell of good warm food in the kitchen.

Despite limited resources, she shows up early every day with resilience, songs and stories. What she might sometimes lacks in materials and resources, she more than makes up for in heart.

These children are the future. If we plant love now, we will harvest strong, joyful souls later.
— Mama Jene

Your donation supports the transformation of Nolukhanyo Educare into a safer, brighter and more nurturing space for our little learners in Langa.

It helps create a functional, hygienic kitchen where meals can be prepared with care, and provides a shaded outdoor play area that protects children from harsh weather - ensuring they can learn, eat, and grow in a space that honors their joy, safety and development every day.

    • Design and install a functional kitchen with ample storage and counter space.

    • Relocate existing appliances for ease of access and better flow

    • Lift, stabilize and enclose kitchen sink area to meet compliance with health codes

    • Upgrade appliances for energy efficiency and safety, enhance lighting and ventilation (add-ons)

    • Design and install weather resistant, UV protection courtyard shade covering for children's outdoor activities

    • Install gutters for rainwater diversion

    • Securely relocate existing garden to wall

    • Refurbish and weatherize outside classroom door

Project 2: Lizanokhanyo Community Bakery

Meet Martha Nosipho Ngxande, a mother, caregiver, and entrepreneur behind Lizanokhanyo Community Bakery - which in her language means “It Brings Light.”

When her husband suffered a stroke, Martha had to leave her job to care for him. The bills piled up, and survival became a daily challenge. But she didn’t give up. She started selling homemade breads and stews from the back of her car. Later, she added amagwinya (fat cakes) with hearty fillings - viennas, chicken livers, French polony - and began building a small but beloved food business in her community.

But without the proper equipment and mobility, her vision started to slip away. She couldn’t afford staff or expand her offerings. Still, she never stopped believing.

I’ve always seen myself having the most successful bakery in my area. For me to survive and grow, I need better tools - but more importantly, I want to create jobs for others.
— Martha

With your support, we can help Martha bring her dream back to life. Your donation helps transform Martha’s family garage into a fully equipped bakery and training hub. Turning a space of survival into one of empowerment.

It supports the safe conversion of the bakery into a bigger space - laying the foundation for a sustainable, woman-led business that nourishes her community, creates jobs and restores dignity and hope.

    • Enclose an existing garage and establish the restaurant/bakery/training facility in the converted garage space

    • Demolish and remove the existing restaurant

    • Convert the demolished restaurant space for a driveway

    • Repair and waterproof the damaged roof panels on the existing addition

    • Repair/ replace and waterproof the damaged roof panels on the existing garage to waterproof new restaurant
